Sarah Walker article

New Zealand BMX champion Sarah Walker’s trip to Aquatica’s Avondale factory just days before heading overseas to compete in international competition was nothing out of the ordinary for the young woman who takes a keen interest in everything she does.

It’s Sarah’s nature to ask questions and find out all she can about her competitions, her competitors, and the courses she’ll be racing on. Arming herself consistently with this kind of information has made her a world-beater in BMX - a gruelling sport requiring mental agility, physical toughness, and strategy - and guaranteed her a place at the London Olympics 2012.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Sarah has taken this same approach to building a home with her partner, world class rower Ian Seymour.

“The home Ian and I are building is modern, and so we wanted to bring that theme through the house. After looking through a lot of catalogues, we found what we were looking for with the brand new Mia range from Aquatica”.

There isn’t one square metre or feature of the house that Sarah and Ian haven’t taken an interest in - right down to the Aquatica taps and mixers that will be going into the home.

Sarah and Ian say that in both their sports there is always an outcome in the back of their minds, and becoming a champion means understanding that the will to prepare is vital – similar, they say, to building a house.
They have chosen Cambridge Homes, a long-time client of Aquatica, to build their home.

Phillip Webb, a Director of Cambridge Homes says he had no hesitation in recommending Aquatica to Sarah and Ian.
“We regard Aquatica’s products as exceptional and there would be very few, if any, homes that we’ve built that don’t use Aquatica tapware, mixers, sinks, laundry tubs, showers, or bathroom accessories,” says Phillip.

“We want every home we build, no matter what the budget is, to be of superb quality in every aspect. We happily recommended Aquatica to Sarah and Ian.”

With Ian overseas for a few months with rowing, Sarah asked if she would be able to visit the Aquatica factory and showroom in Avondale so Philip took her to Auckland for one of his meetings with Aquatica’s Managing Director Malcolm Box.

Sarah said she was amazed at the number of different product ranges stocked and sold by Aquatica.

“The home Ian and I are building is modern, and so we wanted to bring that theme through the house. After looking through a lot of catalogues, we found what we were looking for with the brand new Mia range from Aquatica,” said Sarah.
“We love the modern look of Mia as well as its practicality. It’s going to look great in our home and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished product.

“As far as we’re concerned Aquatica offers the quality that we are after in a product with a huge range of products to suit any budget. Aquatica’s Mia range suits our house perfectly.”

Malcolm said the whole team at Aquatica was thoroughly impressed with Sarah’s proactive attitude.

“She’s quite an amazing young woman and even in that visit to our factory and showroom it was easy to see some of the qualities that make her a world champion. She weighs everything up before making big decisions but at the same time she really seems to know exactly what she wants.

"As far as tapware, mixers, showers, bathroom accessories and a laundry tub goes, Sarah and Ian obviously want a range that will look great in their home and also offer the practicality and functionality they need,” says Malcolm.

With the majority of the house decisions finalised, Sarah left just a few days later for Europe and South Africa for the UCI BMX world championships. In August she won the silver medal in the Elite Women’s section in South Africa.
